Tellmerge

Setup & support

Getting Tellmerge working.

Installation takes about a minute. Most problems people hit are one of four things, and they are all below. If yours isn't, write to us — support@seksolution.com reaches a person.

Before anything else: Tellmerge needs a Microsoft mailbox.

A Microsoft 365 work or school account, or a free Outlook.com / Hotmail address. It sends through Microsoft's own mail API, so a Gmail or Google Workspace mailbox will not work — not even if you read that mail inside the Outlook app. If that's you, please don't buy; nothing we can do at our end changes it.

1

Install it

Open Outlook on the web and go straight to the add-ins dialog:

outlook.live.com/mail/0/inclientstore for a personal account, or outlook.office.com/mail/inclientstore for work or school.

Then My add-ins → Custom Addins → + Add a custom add-in → Add from file, and pick the manifest we sent you. The Settings menu has a route to the same dialog, but Microsoft moves it between versions — the URL above always works.

2

Open it

Look for Tellmerge → Mail merge in the ribbon; if the ribbon is crowded it may be under the Apps or button. It is there whether you are reading a message or writing one — a merge does not use whatever is on screen, so start it from wherever you happen to be.

The first time you send, Microsoft asks you to approve two permissions: send mail as you, and read your own name and address. That consent screen is Microsoft's, not ours.

3

Run a merge

Drop in a spreadsheet, or paste a table straight from Excel. Confirm the email column, then write your message using {{Name}} and any other column heading — in the subject too.

For per-recipient files, add a column of filenames, point Tellmerge at it, and choose the folder holding those files. Preview each message, then send.

4

Enter your key

Your licence key arrives by email right after purchase, in the form TELLMERGE-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. Paste it into the licence panel in the task pane and it binds to the mailbox you are signed in to.

One key, one mailbox — but the same mailbox on a laptop, a desktop and a phone all count as that one. No extra charge for using your own devices.

Troubleshooting

When something isn't right.

The task pane is blank

Almost always the page failing to load rather than the add-in failing to run. Close the pane and reopen it; if it is still blank, check that tellmerge.seksolution.com loads in a normal browser tab from the same machine. Corporate networks sometimes block unfamiliar domains, and the add-in cannot tell you that from inside a blank frame.

If your organisation filters by domain, ask IT to allow tellmerge.seksolution.com.

Tellmerge doesn't appear in the ribbon

Reopen the add-ins dialog and confirm Tellmerge is listed under Custom Addins. Outlook occasionally needs a page refresh before a freshly added add-in shows up. On a narrow window the ribbon collapses, so check under Apps or before concluding it is missing.

Also worth knowing: if you install a newer manifest without removing the old one first, Outlook keeps the old one. Remove, then add.

A row says its attachment is missing

Tellmerge matches the filename in your sheet against the files you picked. It ignores case and any folder path in the cell, and will fall back to matching on the name without its extension — but it will not guess. Two common causes:

The file genuinely isn't in the folder you chose (a typo in the sheet, or the file lives elsewhere), or two of your files share a name apart from the extension, so Tellmerge refuses to pick one. Fix the sheet or narrow the folder selection.

A row with a missing attachment is deliberately not sent. An invoice email with no invoice attached is worse than no email at all.

Some emails were throttled

Microsoft limits how fast and how much a single mailbox may send, and the limit differs by account type. When it pushes back, Tellmerge slows down and retries rather than hammering through — which is what protects your account from being flagged.

Throttled recipients are retried automatically and counted for you on the summary screen. If a very large batch keeps stalling, split it across two days.

My spreadsheet imported as gibberish

Tellmerge decides how to read a file by looking at its contents, not its extension, so this is rare. If it happens, the file is usually not what its name suggests — a .csv that is really an Excel workbook, or a file saved in an unusual encoding. Open it in Excel and re-save as .xlsx.

I need to move my licence to another mailbox

Open Tellmerge in the mailbox that currently holds the seat and choose Deactivate. The seat frees immediately and the key can be entered elsewhere.

If you can no longer open that mailbox — someone left the company, an account was closed — email support@seksolution.com with your order number and we will release it for you.

My trial ended and I'm mid-send

The trial lasts 14 days from the first time you open Tellmerge in a mailbox. After that sending stops until a key is entered — but nothing is deleted, the add-in stays installed, and your lists were never ours to hold. Enter a key and you carry straight on.

Something else

Email support@seksolution.com. Tell us which Outlook you use (web, Windows, Mac), whether the mailbox is Microsoft 365 or Outlook.com, and what you saw. A screenshot of the pane usually saves a round trip.

Please don't send us your recipient list or your attachments — we don't want them and we don't need them to help.

Still stuck?

Write to us. Same company, same people who built it, usually the same day.
